Alhamdulillah, in July 2026, I had the privilege of attending the Women Leadership Conference in Auckland as part of the organising team with the Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand (IWCNZ).
The conference brought together Muslim women from different cities across New Zealand. One of the key objectives was to reflect and reassess the effectiveness of Muslim women’s contributions to the community, to understand the current challenges, and to strengthen the role of Muslim women leaders in building a more resilient and impactful community.
InsyaAllah, there were some meaningful takeaways from the leadership workshop:
🌸 Leadership is an amanah (trust)
Leadership is not about a position or title, but about the responsibility we carry with sincerity, compassion and ihsan (excellence).
🌸 Honouring the trust we inherit
We continue the legacy of those who came before us, appreciating the paths they have opened and ensuring that the trust entrusted to us is carried forward with excellence.
🌸 Fulfilling the responsibility we carry
Each of us has a role to play, regardless of how big or small it may seem. Change begins when we embrace our responsibilities with commitment and consistency.
🌸 Shaping the future we build
The future of our community is shaped by the actions we take today—by nurturing new leaders, empowering women, and raising generations who lead with values and a spirit of service.
🌸 Service creates meaningful connections
When we serve with the intention of seeking Allah’s pleasure, we not only contribute to society but are also blessed with opportunities to meet inspiring individuals from different backgrounds and form meaningful connections that transcend borders.
May the knowledge gained, experiences shared and friendships formed become a source of strength for us to continue serving our community with wisdom, compassion and sincerity.
May Allah accept our efforts as acts of worship and grant blessings in all that we do. Aamiin.
